Monthly SEO packages for small businesses are hard to compare. Two quotes at the same price can include completely different work. This guide explains what a monthly package should include, what UK businesses typically pay, and the warning signs to look out for.
What a monthly SEO package should include
- A starting audit. Technical checks (indexing, speed, broken pages, redirects), plus which keywords you already appear for.
- Keyword and page plan. The searches your customers actually use, matched to a page on your site.
- On-page work every month. Titles, descriptions, headings, internal links and content improvements on your key pages.
- New content. Service, location or guide pages written for searches with buying intent, not filler blog posts.
- Local SEO. Google Business Profile updates, reviews strategy and consistent business details across directories.
- Reporting in plain English. Clicks, impressions and positions from Google Search Console, and enquiries, every month.
What it costs in the UK
Published UK small-business SEO packages we checked in November 2026 ranged from about £99 to around £800 a month, with most entry and mid-level packages between £200 and £500 a month (+VAT where the provider is VAT-registered). Larger campaigns for competitive national keywords cost more.
The price matters less than what you get for it. Ask for the number of pages optimised or written each month, and who does the work.
Warning signs
- Guaranteed first-page or number-one rankings. Nobody controls Google.
- Bulk backlinks or "hundreds of directory submissions".
- Long contracts with no clear deliverables.
- Reports full of rankings for keywords nobody searches.
- No access to your own Search Console or analytics.
How long until it works?
Expect early movement on existing pages within a few months, and longer for new pages and competitive terms. Local searches usually move faster than national ones. If someone promises results in weeks, ask how.
